With the recent passing of what is celebrated as the most sacred week in Christianity, I have given some thought to the meaning and personal application of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many would say that the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event in all of human history, and certainly it holds this primacy in scripture both before and after it occurred. The cross is meaningless without the resurrection. Scripture says “But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith” (1 Cor 15:12-14)…”But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Cor 15:20).

Christianity hangs in the balance on this one primary question: Was Jesus Christ raised from the dead or not? If so, all of our lives and all of eternity is changed for us. If not, Christianity is “useless and so is our faith”. Does that sound important to you? Have you answered that question not just in your mind, but in your heart? “If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom 10:9). Belief in the resurrection is so important that it is one of only two conditions stated here to be saved! This is no trivial matter, it is at the center of the mission of Jesus Christ, and must be believed to enter heaven. And not belief in a symbolic resurrection, but a physical, bodily resurrection. All The Roman and Jewish authorities had to do to quell the Jesus revolution in the 1st century was one simple thing: produce a body. But with the full force of the Roman Empire and local authorities they could not, for “He had risen”. So Christianity exploded from that point on, until it actually became the official religion of the Roman Empire. Incredible. But it’s a fact of history. Read more...

The pursuit of happiness was found to be "self evident" to the founding fathers of America. Finding happiness is a different story. It is elusive to many who pursue it - like a mirage in the desert. Many have the "I'll be happy when x happens" and when it happens, happiness disappears only to be replaced by a new "I'll be happy when another x happens" - and so on. So how do we find true happiness? What does God's "owners manual" of humans (Scripture) have to say about how to find happiness? Much!

This new blog series is based on Dr. Cloud's ( Christian Psychologist) book "The Law of Happiness (Secret Things of God)". I will place a link to the book on Amazon should you want to purchase it at the bottom of this blog. I highly recommend it - one of the best books I have ever read about happiness.

There is a wealth of information in Scripture, and confirmed by science, that point to how to find real happiness, and the many misconceptions that most of us have about how to obtain it. For example: Our external circumstances do not have the inherent power to bring us happiness. External circumstances account for only 10% of our happiness level. Yet, we think it is 90% or more. The "rush" you get from obtaining something you thought would bring you abiding happiness quickly fades into normal and the happiness from it is gone. For example, on Christmas morning the kids are so happy with their new toys. Check out where the toys are 4 months later. Or you paint the inside of your home a nice new color that really makes you happy...how long until it fades into normal? Think about something you got that you thought would make you happy from then on. Did it do the trick? One of the worst things about this mistaken thinking is that when we put our energy and effort into pursuing the wrong things to bring us happiness, we ignore the ones that actually do bring real happiness!
